This year’s campaign is being held under the global theme, “Overcoming Disruptions, Transforming the AIDS Response,” alluding to the need to address challenges affecting HIV prevention, treatment, and care services while promoting innovative responses to the epidemic.
NAC Masvingo Provincial M&E Officer, Munorwei Munyikwa, said the commemorations would be used to promote awareness, prevention, and access to health services.
“People from all walks of life are invited to attend. Health services such as HIV testing, screening for non-communicable diseases, cancer of the cervix, family planning services, and condom distribution, among others, will be provided free on the day,” said Munyikwa.
The event will be held at Mutonhori High School, bringing together people from different sectors of society to strengthen the fight against HIV and AIDS.
Globally, the annual event also serves to mobilize resources and strengthen efforts toward ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
World AIDS Day, first established by the World Health Organization in 1988, is observed globally to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS, honor those who have died from AIDS-related illnesses, and show solidarity with people living with HIV.
