Hundreds of mine employees, their families, and rural residents from surrounding communities in Bikita have received specialized healthcare services following a highly impactful three-day free medical camp hosted by lithium mining giant, Bikita Minerals, in close partnership with the 23rd Chinese Medical Team to Zimbabwe.
The corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, which was conducted from July 8 to 10, 2026, at the Bikita Mine Clinic, successfully delivered free physical examinations, advanced medical consultations, health education, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) services.
The collaborative effort provided critical, high-quality healthcare access to a rural region where affordable specialized medical services are often out of reach.
Operating under the theme “Joint Free Medical Camp of Sinomine Resource Group and the 23rd Chinese Medical Team to Zimbabwe,” the outreach saw massive turnout from grassroots communities.
For many local residents, the camp offered a rare chance to address chronic health issues without the burden of prohibitive costs.
“The acupuncture helped me relieve neck pain which has been tormenting me for years. I have spent years looking for a solution to this debilitating pain, and after just one session with the specialists, I feel immense relief.
“We are deeply grateful to Bikita Minerals and the Chinese doctors for bringing this service to our doorstep,” said one Charumbira.
The specialized medical outreach was conducted by a high-level team of ten Chinese medical experts led by Dr. Ma Zheng, a specialist in Public Health and Pharmacy.
The multidisciplinary team comprised leading professionals including Dr. Peng Jie (TCM and Hepatology), Dr. Hou Can (Endocrinology), Dr. Chen Yanliang (Orthopedics), Dr. Liao Shiyu (Respiratory Medicine), Dr. Li Xuanjing (TCM & Cardiology), Dr. Yang Zhao (General Surgery), Dr. Cao Wang (Medical Imaging), and Dr. Tan Jianwen (Logistics Support).
The event was carried out under the strict guidance of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, with the robust backing of the Chinese government and the Hunan Provincial Health Commission.
A delegation of Bikita Minerals’ mine management visited the Bikita District Hospital during the campaign. The team visited Result Madzvamuse, a local community member who recently underwent a critical leg amputation.
The mining company announced that it had fully settled all medical, surgical, and hospitalization bills incurred by Madzvamuse.
“This successful outreach marks another milestone in the bilateral medical cooperation between Zimbabwe and China, which has flourished since 1985.
“Over the last four decades, China has dispatched 23 specialized medical teams to Zimbabwe. The current team commenced its one-year medical mission in March 2026,” said Bikita Minerals in a statement.
