Villagers talks about the difficulties that resulted after the discovery of lithium in Mberengwa. There were tensions, lawlessness and serious social ills soon after, with school girls getting picked up by truck drivers for sex work. With assistance from Silveira House, the community was able to engage with local mining leaders at Sandawana to take corrective action and bring order into the sector. One of the main issue was the overloading of trucks with lithium ore some of which would then fall off onto the road thus posing a safety risk to members of the community. The community is now engaging the mining company on rehabilitating the road and building a new school.
