Zimbabwe’s Environment Ministry Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Tadeous Chifamba, has urged Africa to consolidate its climate agenda ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), set for November 2025 in Belém, Brazil.
Speaking at Climate Week Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Chifamba said the meeting was crucial for advancing Zimbabwe’s climate financing priorities and strengthening Africa’s collective voice.
“The main thing is to consolidate Africa’s position as we prepare for COP30 in Brazil. Key issues we discussed include nature- and technology-based solutions for mitigation and adaptation, as well as climate financing,” he said.
Chifamba highlighted the Implementation Forum as a key feature of the Addis conference, bringing together governments, investors, and partners to tackle real-world challenges through labs, dialogues, and roundtables.
“We are at a vital moment in the world’s climate journey. Climate Week in Addis Ababa is a chance to share and scale up real-world solutions and extend the benefits of climate action to more people across Africa and globally.
“This means more resilient economies, more jobs, better health and quality of life, and more secure and affordable clean energy for all,” said Chifamba.
He also pointed to Zimbabwe’s progress in climate policy, citing the National Adaptation Policy and Low Emissions Development Strategy as evidence the country is “fairly advanced” and well positioned for global negotiations.
The outcomes of Climate Week Africa will feed into preparations for COP30, where African nations are pushing for stronger commitments on climate finance, adaptation, and resilience.
