The Attorney General’s Office is intensifying its efforts to build on recent successes and ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services to the government, Attorney General Virginia Mabiza has said.

Addressing stakeholders at a mid-term strategy review meeting held at Clevers Lakeview Resort in Masvingo on July 28, 2025, Mabiza (pictured delivering speech) indicated the Attorney General’s Office is determined to further enhance its performance breakthroughs.

“Since its inception as an independent Office, we have achieved several notable milestones, including a commendable score of 4.14 out of 6 in the 2024 evaluation, demonstrating our commitment to results-driven governance,” Mabiza stated.

This evaluation score is a key metric within the government’s performance assessment framework, which is a crucial component of the broader institutional results-based management system.

“This commendable score demonstrates our commitment to results-driven governance,” Mabiza reiterated, situating the achievement within the broader context of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS-1), which aims to propel Zimbabwe towards an upper-middle-income society by 2030.

The positive evaluation comes amid a period of significant activity and reform within the AG’s Office. These reforms include the publication of new regulations governing officer conduct, a substantial realignment of salaries with the Judicial Service Commission to boost staff motivation, and advanced plans for acquiring new operational vehicles and essential ICT infrastructure.

Beyond these administrative and logistical improvements, the Attorney General highlighted concrete achievements that are projected to have contributed to its strong evaluation score. These major achievements include improved court case clearance rates, signifying enhanced efficiency in justice delivery, and the successful drafting of bills and clearance of legislative backlog.

However, Mabiza cautioned that these achievements should not overshadow the persistent challenges faced by the Attorney General’s Office.

“Challenges persist, including case backlogs, resource constraints, legislative gaps, and emerging threats to justice delivery,” she noted. “To address these concerns, we must identify strategic solutions that enhance efficiency, improve the provision of legal services, and strengthen the integrity of our organization,” she said.

The mid-year strategy review session was attended by many dignitaries including board members, Deputy Attorneys General, the Executive Secretary, and state advocates.
