President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday launched the Productivity Booster Kit Scheme and the A1 Land Tenure Title Deeds Programme, two major initiatives in government’s quest to empower foarmers and boost agricultural productivity.

The launch was held at Craigengower Farm in Mazowe district of Mashonaland Central provice.

The programmes represent a significant effort to boost agricultural productivity and secure land tenure for farmers, marking a key step in the government’s commitment to revitalising the agricultural sector and empowering A1 farmers.

Farmers were treated to practical demonstrations of the tools and resources in the Productivity Booster Kit, showing how the innovations could be integrated into daily farming activities.

The initiative is a joint collaboration between the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development and the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

“Today, we are taking a bold step towards empowering our farmers,” said President Mnangagwa. “The Productivity Booster Kit Scheme will provide essential tools and resources to enhance crop yields and improve livelihoods.”

The Productivity Booster Kit is designed to equip A1 farmers with modern agricultural inputs and technologies, including seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation systems; the goal being to increase productivity and foster sustainable farming practices.

The A1 Land Tenure Title Deeds Programme, on the other hand, aims to provide secure land tenure to A1 farmers, ensuring they have legal ownership of their land. This is expected to encourage investment in agriculture and boost farmers’ confidence in their land rights.

“Together, we are laying a solid foundation for our agricultural sector,” the President stated. “The commitment to land tenure implementation is crucial in safeguarding the rights of our farmers.”

President Mnangagwa acknowledged key partners, including the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA), the Agriculture and Rural Development Authority (ARDA), and Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) Holdings, for their roles in supporting the initiative.

In his address, the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, Dr Anxious Masuka highlighted that the project’s primary goal was to improve food security.

“This project isn’t just about securing land; it’s about increasing our national surplus and ensuring that every household has access to food,” said Dr. Masuka.

Kudakwashe Tagwirei, the Chairperson of the Land Tenure Technical Committee, which is steering the Land Tenure Implementation Programme, revealed that the title deeds program will benefit 1,000 farmers. Each beneficiary will access a US$6 000 loan, which is repayable over seven years.
